An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Nurse Practitioner to work alongside our friendly, established and forward-thinking primary care team in Downham Market, Norfolk.

We are currently looking to introduce a second Advanced Nurse Practitioner to our team to work between 5 and 8 sessions (2.5 to 4 days). The salary is negotiable depending on experience and qualifications.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be qualified and experienced in working as an independent practitioner and prescriber with minimal supervision. Appropriate qualifications and experience to enable the successful candidate to examine, diagnose, treat, prescribe and refer patients presenting with acute illness and undiagnosed and undifferentiated conditions are essential.

Part of this role will be to support other members of the nursing team and there may be the opportunity to mentor nursing students in the future.

Good team working and communication is essential; we are a busy town centre practice and the ability to be flexible and assist colleagues with emergency situations, the on call GP and your nursing colleagues is greatly appreciated.

About us

We are a practice with around 8,500 patients situated in Downham Market, a rural village situated in the heart of West Norfolk and are proud to have been serving our local community for many years.

We have a dynamic team consisting of 6 partners, one ANP and a full complement of nurses, HCAs and Clinical Pharmacist. Our work is made possible by support from our dedicated management, reception and administration teams.

Job summary

The post holder is an experienced nurse who, acting within their professional boundaries, will provide care for the presenting patient including clinical assessment, diagnosis and treatment. They will demonstrate safe clinical decision-making and expert care for patients in the general practice. They will work collaboratively with the general practice team to meet the needs of patients, supporting the delivery of policy and procedures.

Job responsibilities

The Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) will act autonomously within their professional scope of practice providing acute care for patients via face to face and telephone consultations and, when required home visits. The ANP will need to provide care for the presenting patient from initial history taking, clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of care, making any necessary referrals for investigations in the appropriate manner.

They will demonstrate safe, clinical decision-making and expert care, including assessment and diagnostic skills, for patients within the general practice. They will demonstrate critical thinking in the clinical decision-making process and will work collaboratively with the practice team to meet the needs of patients and support the delivery of policies and procedures.
