Community Nursing Services

General practice is often used to reduce pressures on secondary and specialist care, given the desired so-called ‘left shift’ movement from secondary to primary care. The Treatment Room Locally Commissioned Service (LCS) covers a number of different aspects of care, which may otherwise be picked up in a secondary or specialist care setting.

The area of ‘complex dressings’ within the Treatment Room LCS is one which has had some spotlight thrown on it by some recent events and Coroner’s subsequent comments. The ICB have confirmed that the Treatment Room LCS specifically excludes compression bandaging, which needs to be undertaken by other providers under the appropriate Leg Ulcer Clinic pathway. The pathway, together with the complex dressing guidance, is available here.
